Who Writes This
I’m Elena Vasquez. Over the past fifteen years I’ve traveled through more than 50 countries on six continents. For a stretch of those years I led groups professionally through Southeast Asia and the highlands of South America — running the logistics, absorbing the complaints, and learning firsthand which parts of the guidebook were written by someone who never left the hotel. I don’t guide anymore; these days the only itinerary I’m responsible for is my own. Witty Passport is the site I always wished existed: practical, specific, and built on being there rather than on recycled itineraries.
How I Write Guides
I write the small, hard-won details that don’t make it into the big travel sites: which neighborhood actually makes sense as a base, what a place feels like in the off-season, when the famous thing is worth the line and when the better version is two streets away with no queue. Years of doing this on my own dime taught me how trips actually fall apart — the missed connection, the “10-minute walk” that’s forty, the restaurant that peaked five years ago — so my itineraries are built around real logistics, not postcard sequences.
When something disappointed me, I say so. A guide that can’t tell you what to skip can’t be trusted about what to see.
